Program Overview
The Vocaloid culture that emerged in the early 2000s has developed alongside online creative communities, forming a unique sphere of expression that crosses music, video, illustration, and character culture. In recent years, while Vocaloid voices are approaching human singing voices, human singing has also been approaching Vocaloid-like expression, creating a new domain of expression that crosses the boundary between the living body and the digital.
Emerging within this situation is a sensation that could be described as the "undifferentiated state of the body." In Vocaloid music videos, while character bodies bear digital noise and glitches, they bleed or heal their wounds. There, boundaries such as those between the living body and the digital, substance and symbol, and life and data blur, bringing forth what could be called a "semi-raw" corporeality.
Furthermore, this sensation extends beyond the content of the works to the very nature of creation itself. In Vocaloid culture, secondary creation and remixing are actively conducted without being bound by divisions such as original and copy, creator and receiver, or genre and production method. Diverse techniques—including hand-drawn animation, Ugoku Memochō, 3DCG, live action, and programming—are used without barriers, allowing diverse values to coexist, ranging from social critique to the expression of personal ideology. Moreover, this creation spreads regardless of nationality or region, with individuals generating new expressions driven by their own unique interests and ideas.
This program features Vocaloid music videos that continue to be updated in real-time, including those by sheeno mirin. Furthermore, while also touching upon the practices of StudioGnu, led by sheeno mirin, the program explores the current state of contemporary Vocaloid culture from the perspective of the "undifferentiated state of the body."
