Program Overview

The second installment of the Koji Nanke special feature program, originally presented at Hiroshima Animation Season 2024. This program explores the charms of Nanke from three distinct angles: credit titles, character design, and independent productions. The works "Toro-to" and "Glasses" will mark their world premieres.
Following the screening, Maiko Harada from Studio Pierrot and NUNOANI Juku, alongside animation researcher Daisuke Tanaka, will be welcomed as guests for a talk session to unpack Nanke's achievements. Curators: Maiko Harada, Daisuke Tanaka

This is the samurai era in the late 17th century in Japan. There is a princess called Anmitsu Princess, who is a bright and cheerful girl. Anmitsu Princess is loved by not only her retainers in the castle, but also people in her whole town. Strange and amazing things happen around her. Although it is still the 17th century, people drive cars and use high technology. Anmitsu Princess has friends from overseas and knows an inventor who creates new devices. She even encounters a UFO! Anmitsu Princess has many misadventures and causes trouble in her town. The whole town and castle is full of surprise!
Adding the latest technology and culture to a Japanese traditional society, the story of Anmitsu Hime creates a special dream-like world of joy.

Koji Nanke

Born in Mie Prefecture in 1952. After graduating from high school, joined the finishing department of TATSUNOKO PRODUCTION in 1971. He was in charge of special effects for “Insect Story Honeybee Hatch" ('70-'71) and “Ketsudan” ('71) before becoming an animator. He left TATSUNOKO PRODUCTION in 1974 and has been freelance since then. He was in charge of credit titles for many popular works such as “Urusei Yatsura” ('81-'86) and “Ranma ½: Nettohen” ('89-'92). He has incorporated a number of creative expressions into the credit titles of animated TV series, such as close synchronization of animation and music, sophisticated abstract patterns, and the introduction of a variety of techniques and art materials. He has also produced many animations for children's TV programs such as “NHK MINNANO UTA” ('61-) and “With Mother” ('59-). As of 2024, he has composed the most songs for “NHK MINNANO UTA” in particular. In addition, he has worked extensively on advertising videos, illustrations, and picture books.
