Program Overview

After years as an unknown actor and adjunct lecturer, waiting for his day in the sun, opportunity finally came knocking. Ironically, it came twice at once.

I’ll Just Live in Bando is the feature debut of director Lee Yongsun, who has made several short and medium-length films. The protagonist, forced to choose between dream and reality, closely mirrors the director himself, who has worked as an independent animation director while teaching university courses. The film poignantly portrays the precarious livelihood of Korean filmmakers who scrape by while pursuing their craft.

Oh Joon-gu, a part-time university lecturer in his forties, still dreams of becoming an actor. One day, he receives an audition offer from a former college friend. At the same time, after saving the life of a powerful senior professor at his university, he is offered a full professorship. Two miracles arrive at once. Caught between pursuing his dream and securing a stable future for his family, Joon-gu eventually decides to accept the professorship. However, even more unexpected obstacles stand in his way. What will become of these two miracles that appeared at the same moment?

LEE Yongsun

Born in Seoul in 1986. He entered the Department of Animation at Chungkang College of Cultural Industries in 2005 and graduated in 2011. He currently serves as an adjunct professor in the Department of Animation at the same institution. Through his short films Alone (2010) and Trying to Remember (2011), and his medium-length works The Giant Sun Is Coming (2013) and Toilet Concours (2014), he developed his own production system and built the experience necessary for feature-length filmmaking. Toilet Concours was released in independent and art-house theaters in 2016 and was praised for its poignant portrayal of the struggles and aspirations of a middle-aged family man. In 2017, he completed his first feature-length animated film, I'll Just Live in Bando.
